Sea Swim Practice #2

today was the 2nd sea swim practice at Serasa beach and today we also decided to do the bike and run leg. My swim time was a bit faster compared to last week which was 31.08 mins compared to 37 mins. The sea was cleaner with very little rubbish.

At the start of the swim, a few of us who started at the right side terlanggar batu which we didn't see thus bruising and cuts everywhere in our legs and hands. kacau kacau.

For the bike leg, we didn't join the other cyclists because me and my brother are still waiting for GD to come out of the water.

We were hoping to be able to catch up with them but they were too fast. We only managed to caught up with Ahmad at the lambak kanan traffic light. He said he wasn't able to follow them coz they were too fast for him, so ketinggalan. I guess, their average speed was around 37 t0 42 whereas our speed was averaging around 35km.

We managed to cover 40km in a time of 1:09:39 hours with average speed of 34.6km/hr and max speed of 48km/hr.

For my run, I decided just to do one loop of stadium instead of the 10km triathlon route. I've managed to cover 3.97km in a time of 24.09 mins which was way too slow. The time was around 8:45am and it was very hot. I did run-walk-run. huhhhhhhhh

Since Ahmad left his car at Serasa, he decided to hitch a ride with us but wasn't sure whether the Ranger can accomodate another bicycle (3 bicycles already). I decided just asak saja in between the bikes and hold on to the bike. So Ahmad and me ride at the back of the Ranger with its back door down and we used jalan kampong just to stay safe (selamat kan???).

Ahmad was very worried with his new 'baby'. Kami dengan selamatnya sent Ahmad and his 'baby safe home to Manggis Satu.

Next week is the race day. I think I'm ready for the race and I'm hoping to get a number (5 to 10), hopefully.

Sea Swim Practice #1

Friday, 13th Feb, 7am at Pantai Serasa around 13 triathletes wannabe (some are already tri-athletes) are trying out the swimming course. I was only informed yesterday afternoon by Ali Sofian Thani, so I only managed to contact a few of my friends. The sea swim familiarization was not organized by the Brunei Triathlon Committee but by some enthusiast athlete. The swim was being monitored by the Brunei Marine Police. Thank you very much guys

Getting ready for the swim. For me, I was wearing the full gear that I'm going to wear for the triathlon event.

Me and GD setting our stop watch. My time was around 38 mins and according to the time keeper, the distance is less than the actual (kurang 300 to 200m). Ahmad time was around 37 mins and GD time was around 44mins

The Brunei Marine Police with their cool ride

Overall, I was pretty much satistied with my performance today. I'm more confidence now that I will be able to finish my swim. Inda ku rugi berminggu minggu ku belajar swimming. I'm ready for the marathon swim. I should register for the Labuan 5.4Km cross channel swim <---I'm not that crazy to try this

Swimming in the sea is very much different from swimming pool. Its salty, cloudy (dark) bottom and not to mention rubbish everywhere. For us today, the starting line was full of rubbish with lots of floating logs.
I heard next week there will be another another swimming session. This time we will bring our bike. We didn't know that today they were also doing the bike route after the swim (brick training).
Until next week...........................

Cycle 2 Work

Today managed to cycle to work 26.56km in a time of 57.21mins. I took the longer route. I started from my home to highway Mentiri and to BSB using Jalan Kota Batu. It was just an endurance ride, no speed work, just cruising along. I arrived at my office around 7:15am and most the workers have not arrived, so easy for me to carry my bike without anyone noticing.

After work, of course lah balik pakai basikal. It would sound stupid if you went back home using your car and the bike at the back seat. hahahaha...................

Went back home using Jalan Kebangsaan and stop by at Stadium to meet up with GD and Aliuddin. We did 5 laps around Stadium road with speed interval. After that recovery rest at the Pusat Dakwah bus stop.

I should do this weekly - Cycle 2 Work - Healthy, Fitness, Fuel Saving and Rejuvenation.......

The Greatest Race On Earth 08/09 - Hong Kong

The HongKong Marathon was held last Sunday, 8th February 2009 and Brunei was represented by Sefli Ahar. His time was 3:04:17 hours.

With all the 4 races (Nairobi, Singapore, Mumbai & Hong Kong) completed, Brunei is now ranked 19 out of 23 countries participatig in the race. Not much improvement from last year. The 4 countries that we beat were Korea, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Pakistan. We managed to beat them due to the fact that some of their runners did not showed up for the races. yehaaaaaaaaaa

Keep on running.........................

Week 6(2009) - 02/02 - 08/02

It was a slow week due to hujan di sana sini, turun inda berschedule. So to cut short, below were my activities;

Monday: Recovery
Tuesday: Recovery (Hujan)
Wednesday: Morning 5km run and Afternoon swimming lesson
Thursday: Afternoon bike ride 21.44km
Friday: recovery (swimming pool break down)
Saturday: 3X500m swim at Anggerek Desa Swimming pool
Sunday: 62.97 km bike ride

The weather is getting better nowadays and with raining only occuring at night (sakajap saja). 18 more days to triathlon and I've seen a lot of athlete doing their training. This year will be the year where we will see alot of new Triathlon bike compared to the previous triathlon. If I'm not mistaken only 1 or 2 Triathlon bike were being used at that time. This year, most probably more than 5 triathlon bikes ranging from Scott, Pinarello, Quintana Roo and not forgetting Cervelo - the number 1 Triathlon bike and maybe a few other triathlon bike that I'm not aware they have bought.

Keep on training...............................Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, China - the list goes on

BAD weather

For the past few days, the weather in Brunei hasn't been very good. Heavy rain during the night and continues until early morning causing flash flood and landslides. So many areas have been affected including areas yang inda pernah pernah banjir, kebanjiran.

In conclusion with all this rainy season which will continue untuk beberapa hari yang akan datang or maybe until the end of the month, most probably some outdoor activities will have to be canceled.

The bicycle expedition from KB to Kg Salambigar (this coming Sunday) will most probably have to be canceled due to the current road conditions at KB especially Sg Liang road where some part of the road are affected by landslides with road submerge in water. They have not issue any announcement yet but for safety reason cancel tia - panjang lagi masa, ada 10 bulan lagi. Probably jua lumba basikal jarah jauh 156K mungkin akan di cancel. Lihat & Tunggu.

Just Another Week

With all the raining, it's very hard to train for a very long time. If you stay too long outside, the rain might fall on you.

Monday was my recovery day and Tuesday was supposed to be my 10K run but it was raining int the afternoon, so stay inside. Wednesday morning, I did my 5K run with 3X hill sprint. Luckily I did 5k because after that it rain. Afternoon after work at 6pm, as schedule Ahmad, GD and me went for our swimming lesson. It was an exhausting training. The coach first ask us to do 30 laps of 20m pool warm up swim. After that another 30 laps swim from one end of the pool to the other end , climb up, run around the pool to the starting position, jump in/dive in - 30 times. ngalih ngalih !!!! After that another 5 sets of freestyle swim with your head above the water (sighting practice) and come back to the starting position with a normal freestyle swim. All that in one hour. At night I was so tired, it was difficult for me to sleep. 3 more lessons before the event. hopefully the training will prepare me for the 1.5km sea swim.

Yesterday afternoon, it didn't rain so we proceed with our bike training. We managed to cover around 20k with a lot of high speed endurance. My bike fitness is still not there yet. Today, I'm planning to go to swimming pool stadium and hopefully it will not rain.

Sunday morning, we are planning to go to Tasek Biru, highway Tutong. It will be just another long distance ride (endurance) with speed around 28 to 32km/h with some speed burst once in a while.

Keep on training.....................................

Sunday Morning Ride #3

As scheduled, we had our sunday morning ride. Today only 5 cyclists showed up. We managed to cover a distance of 69.22km in a time of 2:38:17 hours.

Sg Akar Highway near Simpang 40

The weather was good and it didn't rain. The route was from Sg Akar to Mentiri Highway then to Serasa beach using Muara road. We have a break at Serasa beach and checking out the triathlon swimming area and the transition (T1) for the bike leg.

The triathlon swimming area.

After 15 mins rest, we continue our journey using the triathlon bike route. We noticed that the road at Serasa is a bit rough with a few potholes. Along Muara Tutong Highway, it is a straight incline ride against the wind. 2 km after the muara highway roundabout, we have to change lane to the other side since there is a road construction thus killing the speed that we have built up. A major turn off.

There are a few places where you can speed off because 'jalan nya menurun' especially Hutan Simpan Berakas Highway and Tungku Link highway.

We have a good ride today and kinda know exactly what to expect during the triathlon bike leg. The bike route selection was good without any steep hill just an incline/gradient. The run will be a bit of a challenge since they include supa save mabohai hill which is verrrrry long.
